General Manager - Power Generation

Our client operates as a developer, owner, operator, and investor in power generation and other electric infrastructure in the United States. The company operates fossil-fired power plants; and renewable power plants, such as solar photovoltaic power projects and wind farms, and natural gas-fired combined cycle facilities. They identify the need for new power generation and other energy infrastructure and work with their customers, including investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, and regional power pools, to sell competitively priced electricity on a wholesale basis. The General Manager will be in a key leadership role for one of their major plants in the northeast region.


  • P&L responsibility for large power generation facility located in the northeast
  • Supervise workforce including exempt/non-exempt and union/non-union employees
  • Optimization of trading strategy including development of short and long term bidding strategies in NYISO and financial hedging
  • Interface with third party energy manager
  • Optimization of plant performance including identification and implementation of plant performance enhancements as well as critical of planned and ongoing projects to determine continued viability
  • Willingness to challenge previous operating and maintenance practices
  • Interface with third party O&M provider
  • Implementation of cultural change of plant workforce
  • Interface with union representatives
  • Review and identification contract restructuring opportunities
  • Preparation of annual gross margin/operating expense budgets and monthly variance reporting/forecasting
  • Compliance management for all environmental and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee project finance covenant compliance and reporting
  • Interface with state and local officials and stakeholders


  • Minimum 15-years’ experience in the power generation industry including P&L experience for generation assets
  • Candidate must have a track record of living and working in the northeastern United States
  • Experience with operating plants under NYISO rules and operations
  • Experience supervising a large, long-term workforce
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with local officials and stakeholders
