Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of our client’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response. The Gas System Operations organization continuously monitors and directly controls the flow, pressure, and quality of gas.
Serve as a first line of defense for emergencies on the gas system.
Operate the system efficiently in order to maximize revenue.
Keep operating costs low, such as maintenance and fuel costs, and maximize capacity available for sale.
The Director, Gas Systems Planning provides strategic leadership and direction to a geographically dispersed team of engineers whose work has a key impact on the safe and reliable operation of the company’s gas system. The Director ensures sufficient gas pipeline capacity for safe and reliable daily and future operations. He or she oversees pipeline system experts focused on all aspects of gas system hydraulic analysis and modeling. The Director contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.
In the Director, Gas System Planning team leadership role, he or she will recruit and select direct reports, communicate expectations, foster employee engagement, coach, develop, mentor, recognize, and reward employees in order to drive performance and results.
Details of Opportunity:
Provide management and strategic leadership for the Gas System Planning organization. Builds an integrated team and fosters teamwork and learning across the organization.
Ensure that capacity and operating plans that drive gas system investments, design, and operations to deliver gas to customers without operational incidents are developed.
Provide oversight to long-term, seasonal, and daily capacity and operational planning of gas transmission and distribution systems.
Develop policies, processes, tools and training for planning engineers in remote locations
Provide oversight for hydraulic analysis, operational and emergency support, and system engineering of the firms backbone, local transmission, and distribution systems.
Provide expert knowledge of gas system operations and hydraulics for regulatory and other purposes.
Ensure that an integrated plan for gas transmission outages is developed.
Employ analytical tools and processes to enable gas system planning.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
10 years of relevant experience, including hydraulic modeling and gas system operations experience
Professional Engineer License
Experience leading union-represented employees
Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists labor contracts
Technical Knowledge & Expertise: Knowledge of fluid flow/dynamics, gas system hydraulic modeling, pipeline engineering, and gas system control and operations.

Budget/Expenses: Has knowledge and skills to develop and manage department budgets, expenses, variances. Serves as key budget resource and guide to others.
